Solidago

MFA Thesis Exhibition, Anna Leonowens Gallery, April 8th-19th 2025

The title “Solidago” is the Latin term for the family known colloquially as Goldenrod; fall-blossoming plants that sprout golden-yellow feathery blossoms on their bending stalks, commonly seen in stretching fields and along roadside ditches. They signify a shift towards shorter days and colder weather- a grounding reminder of the passage of time that constantly appears as a symbol in my memories and paintings. Our relationship to the natural world is emotional, embodied, and mostly unconscious. It also may point to a deeper unconscious understanding of nature that sits below the surface of our minds and is interwoven into the animality of humans.
